Transfers for conferences and events in Ljubljana

Ljubljana runs a fuller conference calendar than its size suggests. In the first four months of 2026 alone: the 2nd International AI Olympiad at the Grand Hotel Union, 300 people, 23 to 27 February. Urban Future at the GR Ljubljana Convention Centre, 3,000 people, 24 to 27 March, the same week the 21st European Molecular Imaging Meeting fills the Cankarjev Dom congress centre with another 1,000. In October, the city hosts the UEC Road European Championships, over 40 nations and around 800 riders and staff moving through it for a week.

None of this is a stretch for the city's own convention bureau to find, and none of it is a secret. What is worth stating plainly is what a private transfer actually solves here, because it is not the same problem an airport pickup solves.

The venues, and how a car actually reaches them

Cankarjev Dom, the CD Congress Centre, sits in the centre, an easy door-to-door drive with no pedestrian-zone complication. The GR Ljubljana Convention and Exhibition Centre is out by the fairground, further from the old town than a first-time visitor expects, and worth a few extra minutes in any schedule. The Grand Hotel Union and City Hotel are both on the main avenues, door pickups, no walking. Four Points by Sheraton Mons is out towards the ring road, its own parking, ten minutes from the centre by car and nothing walkable from it. Hotel Slon is central, on Slovenska cesta, the same easy case as the Union.

Stožice, where the larger sporting fixtures play, is north of the centre, well connected by road and a straightforward transfer, not a walkable one.

What a delegation actually needs, which is not an airport transfer

A single speaker flying in for one session is a normal airport transfer: one pickup, one destination, €45 for the saloon or €70 for the van, per car, fixed before the trip.

A delegation is a different shape of problem, closer to a wedding than to an airport run. Several people, arriving on different flights, needing to be at the same venue by the same hour, and often needing the car again in the evening for a dinner across town. That is day hire, not a transfer: €190 for the saloon or €240 for the van up to five hours, €350 or €440 for a full day, one booking covering the whole day's stops rather than four separate ones that each have to be arranged and confirmed on their own.

For a VIP speaker or a small delegation, that is also the difference between a car that waits and a shuttle that runs to somebody else's timetable. Conference shuttles exist and are usually free, but they leave when the schedule says, not when the session actually ends, and they stop at the venue, not at whichever hotel each person is in.

Who this is actually for

Not the whole conference. A hundred attendees moving between a hotel block and a venue is what shuttle buses are for, and they do that well. This is for the smaller, harder case inside every conference: the keynote speaker whose flight lands three hours before they go on stage, the small delegation with a dinner to get to after the last session, the organiser who needs one number to call rather than a fleet booking form.
